Michel Jacob

Michel Jacob, one of Vancouver’s most celebrated culinary icons, recently retired after more than four decades at the helm of the renowned French fine dining restaurant, Le Crocodile. Originally from Strasbourg, France, Jacob brought the rich traditions of Alsatian cuisine to Vancouver, creating an enduring legacy since opening Le Crocodile in 1983. His passion for showcasing the finest ingredients and authentic French techniques earned him numerous accolades, including Vancouver Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame. His crowning achievement came in 2024 when he was named an Officer in the Ordre du Mérite Agricole by the French government, recognizing his contributions to promoting French agricultural products and cuisine. Le Crocodile, inspired by Michelin-starred Au Crocodile from Jacob’s hometown, became a staple of Vancouver’s dining scene under his leadership, known for its impeccable execution of French classics. Now, after a storied career, Jacob has passed the torch to his long-time friend and protégé, Chef Rob Feenie, ensuring the restaurant’s legacy continues. As Jacob embarks on his well-deserved retirement, including travels through Europe, his influence on Vancouver’s culinary landscape remains profound.
