Honoree Categories

The BC Restaurant Hall of Fame awards were launched to pay tribute to individuals, past or present, which have shaped the vibrant culinary industry in British Columbia. In 2016, individuals will be inducted into the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame in three selection categories:

  • Active Restaurateur Award — Celebrates the exceptional restaurateur who is currently active in the BC restaurant industry.
  • Supplier Award — An individual who, through their work as a supplier partner, has consistently supported BC’s restaurant industry.
  • Friend of the Industry Award — This special recognition award is presented from time to time to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the hospitality industry in British Columbia, but who may not otherwise qualify for induction into the Hall of Fame such as media, educator or politician.
  • The Industry Award – An individual – retired, deceased or active – who is or has been a chef, server, manager, bartender and who has demonstrated exceptional professionalism working in the restaurant industry. These individuals will be recognized for making their restaurant a special experience for customers. 2 awards:

               1. Front of house
               2. Back of house

All nominees must have attained a high level of excellence and brought honour to the British Columbia hospitality industry through ongoing dedication to the development of the hospitality industry in British Columbia. Candidates must exemplify good character and dedication,

Restaurant Awards

Social Responsibility Awards
Recognizing restaurants in two separate categories – independent and multi-unit. Acknowledged for their commitment to activities that balance profit with the benefit to society. Restaurants will be judged based on environmental, people (employees, suppliers, guests and general public) and charitable support (financial and in kind).

Most Creative
Recognizes the restaurant that is renowned for thinking and behaving “outside the box”. This will be reflected in food, restaurant design, promotions, human resources, charitable involvement, etc.

Best New Restaurant
Nominated by the general public. Any restaurant that has opened in the 12 months ending August 31, 2016 are eligible.

Nominated by the general public. Two categories, multi-unit & independent.
